The Port Harcourt Medical Journal, the official journal of the College of Health Sciences, University of Port Harcourt, is in the 14th volume since it was first published. The journal was first published in September 2006 with Prof N Eke as the first editor-in-chief.[1]
Prof N Eke has steered the ship of the journal from the beginning to the present stage and with his retirement in sight, the baton has been handed over by the appointment of Dr RC Echem as the second editor-in-chief of the journal. This marks the beginning of a new phase of the journal.
A new editorial board for the Port Harcourt Medical Journal has been constituted. Dr PO Fiebai will serve as the deputy editor-in-chief, Dr PI Opara as the assistant editor, Dr TJ Gbeneol as the business editor and Mr H Akpan as the circulation editor. Other members of the editorial board include Drs DD Alasia, BA Alex-Hart, G Bassey, BP Athanasius, OB Braimoh, J Odigie, FS Amah-Tariah, CW Paul and F Diorgu.
The task of running the journal is vested in this editorial team and although it would appear herculean, the team will build on what had been laid by the previous editorial team. It is hoped that the journal will grow further and we will have sub-editors for various disciplines within the scope of the journal. Further indexing for the journal and wider international exposure will be pursued vigorously.
The editorial team will urge the college and her staff to continue to support the journal in funding, manuscript submission and manuscript review. We also urge Wolters Kluwer to work with the team to further improve the visibility of the journal in the international scene. We strongly believe that together we will achieve more than our expectations.
The editorial team thanks everyone who has served in the editorial board since the inception of the journal and had worked tirelessly with the first editor-in-chief to get the journal to the status it has attained so far. Your selfless service is greatly appreciated.
